INDEPENDENT Β· UNOFFICIAL Β· SOLIDCRAFT GUIDE

Start with a sketch.
Build with SolidCraft.

SolidCraft is an open-source parametric 3D CAD application. This guide points you to official downloads, explains desktop and browser options, and walks through a first sketch-to-solid workflow. It also introduces the CLI and MCP paths for automation.

DO THE NEXT THING

Choose a task. Stay on this page.

Use the quick guides below, then open an official product page only when you need the app or an installer.

01 / GET THE APP

Try it in a browser or choose a desktop build

The official download page lets you choose a platform, architecture, and package. This guide does not host installers. The browser app stores designs in browser storage, so export a backup you can keep.

What should I check after installation?
  1. Confirm the package matches your operating system and CPU architecture.
  2. Launch SolidCraft and create a blank design.
  3. Save a small test design, close it, then reopen it before starting important work.
  4. For a blocked launch or package error, compare the exact release and system with the current official instructions.

02 / FIRST MODEL

Make an editable 40 Γ— 25 Γ— 8 mm plate

This documentation-based walkthrough shows the full first loop. Menu labels can change between releases; it has not been presented as a hands-on test.

  1. SketchCreate a blank design, choose Create Sketch, and select a plane such as XY.
  2. DrawMake a closed rectangle. Use Sketch Dimension to set 40 mm by 25 mm.
  3. ExtrudeFinish the sketch, select its enclosed region, and extrude it by 8 mm.
  4. EditChange a sketch dimension or the extrusion distance; confirm the timeline rebuilds.
  5. Save and reopenSave as a .solidcraft file, close it, and reopen it to check that the design persists.
  6. Export if neededUse File β†’ Export and confirm the available format and units in your current release.

Use this as a learning exercise, not an engineering validation. Check the current official getting-started guide β†—

03 / MCP AND AI AGENTS

Connect an MCP client to SolidCraft

Install the official desktop app and CLI first. For Claude Code, the official quick setup is:

claude mcp add solidcraft -- solidcraft-cli mcp

To watch an agent work in the desktop app, start it with solidcraft --control 7878, then configure the MCP command with solidcraft-cli mcp --connect 127.0.0.1:7878. A copied config alone does not confirm a connection: restart or refresh the client and check that SolidCraft tools appear. MCP can read or change files; grant only the folders the task needs.

See official MCP setup, client examples, and file-access rules β†—

01 / THE TOOL

See what it can do today

SolidCraft is developing quickly. Learn the modeling basics, then check the official roadmap before relying on a specific capability for production work.

02

Desktop, web, CLI and MCP

Choose the desktop app or browser version. The CLI and MCP server expose modeling workflows to scripts and AI agents.

02 / A SIMPLE START

Three steps to
your first model.

Install from the official source, try a small part, then decide whether the current feature set fits your work.
